Laid-off workers and people hungry to start new career paths are lining up to take free, federally funded courses at Capital Community College in Hartford, Conn., part of a national effort to educate more than 10,500 people in the electronic systems that, after years of discussion, are poised to become commonplace in medicine. The federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has estimated that the nation will need 50,000 more health IT workers by 2015.
