Hospitals Earn Award for EMR Use

Industry trade group Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) honored 15 hospitals with its Stage 7 award for operating in a paperless environment and representing best practices in EMR implementation. HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical records systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database. Tracking their progress in completing eight stages (0-7), hospitals can review the implementation and utilization of information technology applications with the intent of reaching Stage 7, which represent an advanced patient record environment. All 15 were from two large healthcare systems, Kaiser Permanente and NorthShore University HealthSystem.
